Origin: Friuli Venezia Giulia, Italy

Description: The French call it Pinot Gris, and make a full-bodied, higher-alcohol version. This Italian style is leaner—fresh, zingy and citric. Delicate minerality surrounds aromas of pear, lemon and Golden Delicious apple.

Food pairing: Soft shell crabs, grilled prawns, fresh mozzarella and tomato salad, pasta primavera and pork tenderloin.
